Target Information

Dynamins represent one of the subfamilies of GTP-binding proteins. These proteins share considerable sequence similarity over the N-terminal portion of the molecule, which contains the GTPase domain. Dynamins are associated with microtubules and are implicated in processes such as endocytosis, cell motility, and membrane remodeling activities like bone resorption by osteoclasts.
Dynamins interact with actin-binding and other cytoskeletal proteins and can self-assemble, stimulating GTPase activity.
Five alternatively spliced transcripts encoding different proteins have been described; additional variants may exist but are not fully characterized.
