Target Information
CLN6 is a 311-amino acid protein with 7 predicted transmembrane domains, conserved across vertebrates. It localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and contributes to lysosomal function. Mutations in CLN6 cause variant late-onset infantile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (vLINCL), a lysosomal storage disorder leading to progressive mental deterioration and blindness. CLN6 belongs to a group of eight proteins (CLN1–8) associated with neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCL).
