Target Information
This gene is one of eight associated with neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCL), also known as Batten disease. NCLs are autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disorders affecting children. The genes involved likely encode proteins required for lysosomal degradation of post-translationally modified proteins. The primary defect in NCL disorders is associated with lysosomal storage function.
