Target Information
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is an opportunistic pathogen infecting lung, kidney, gut, and other organs, particularly in immunologically immature individuals such as fetuses and neonates. Infection also occurs in immunosuppressed patients, including transplant recipients, chemotherapy patients, and those with HIV infection.
CMV is an enveloped double-stranded DNA virus, and in humans (HCMV) it is commonly known as human herpesvirus 5 (HHV-5).
