Target Information
The Teashirt zinc finger homeobox (TSHZ) family comprises evolutionarily conserved transcription factors. In Drosophila, they are active in specific body parts for patterning, while in vertebrates their function is less clear. In mice, TSHZ proteins are expressed in distinct patterns in the developing and adult brain, suggesting a role in establishing regional identity and cell type specification.
TSHZ3 and TSHZ1 interact with FE65, an adapter protein that binds to amyloid precursor protein (APP) in neurons. Together with SET and histone deacetylases, they form a gene-silencing complex targeting caspase-4. This family of proteins may also be involved in carcinogenesis.
