Target Information
POU5F1, also known as Oct-4, is a maternally expressed octamer-binding transcription factor involved in early embryonic development. It plays a critical role in maintaining pluripotency and is essential in stem cell research. Expression of POU5F1, together with Sox2, Klf4, Lin28, and c-Myc, allows the generation of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells from somatic cells. Recent studies have shown that iPS cells can be produced using plasmid expression systems, eliminating the need for viral vectors and improving safety for regenerative medicine applications.
