Target Information
CD14 is a 55 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein expressed on mature monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. It functions as a multifunctional lipopolysaccharide receptor and is found both in membrane-bound and soluble forms. CD14 interacts with lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP) and plays a key role in immune responses, including neutralization of lipopolysaccharides and apoptotic cell binding. Dysregulation of CD14 is associated with infectious and inflammatory conditions such as Mycobacterium chelonae infection and croup. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
