Target Information
Apolipoprotein E (Apo E) plays a crucial role in plasma lipid metabolism and is a component of various lipoprotein particles. It is synthesized in the liver, brain, spleen, and kidney, with high concentrations in interstitial fluids. Apo E mediates cholesterol transport between cells and is essential in the formation of very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL) and chylomicrons. The APOE gene is located on chromosome 19 at position 19q13.2.
