Target Information
The ATR (Ataxia Telangiectasia and Rad3-related) protein is a serine/threonine kinase and DNA damage sensor that activates cell cycle checkpoint signaling upon DNA stress. It phosphorylates and activates several proteins involved in DNA replication inhibition and mitosis control, promoting DNA repair, recombination, and apoptosis. ATR is essential for fragile site stability and centrosome duplication. Defects in this gene are associated with Seckel syndrome 1.
