Target Information
Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC, is a novel protein localized with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It is not a structural component but is recruited during tight junction maturation. Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and xenografts, with lower expression in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature via a C-terminal extracellular segment; blocking this domain or inhibiting metadherin with siRNA has been reported to reduce breast cancer metastasis.
