Target Information
Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC (Lysine-Rich CEACAM1 co-isolated), is a novel protein localized with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells.
It is not a structural component but is recruited during tight junction maturation. Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and xenografts, with lower expression in normal breast tissue.
It binds to lung vasculature, a common site of breast cancer metastasis, via a C-terminal extracellular domain segment. Blocking this domain with antibodies or siRNA can inhibit breast cancer metastasis.
