Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as confirmed by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Cytoplasmic ribosomes, which catalyze protein synthesis, consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits contain four RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. The RPS4Y1 gene encodes ribosomal protein S4, a component of the 40S subunit.
Ribosomal protein S4 is unique in being encoded by more than one gene—RPS4Y1 (Y-linked) and RPS4X (X-linked). Though not identical, the two isoforms are functionally equivalent. RPS4 belongs to the S4E family of ribosomal proteins.
Haploinsufficiency of ribosomal protein S4 genes has been proposed to play a role in Turner syndrome, though this remains controversial. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome.
