Target Information
ESRRB (steroid hormone receptor ERR2) plays a role in maintaining self-renewal and pluripotency of embryonic and trophoblast stem cells through signaling pathways such as FGF and Wnt.
Upon FGF pathway activation, ESRRB interacts with KDM1A, binding to enhancer sites of ELF5 and EOMES, activating transcription and promoting trophoblast stem cell self-renewal.
ESRRB also regulates rod-specific gene expression and is required for survival of this cell type.
Defects in ESRRB can cause autosomal recessive deafness (DFNB35).
