DIABLO(Smac)는 미토콘드리아 단백질로, 다양한 형태의 세포자멸사(apoptosis)를 활성화합니다. 이는 IAP(apoptosis inhibitory proteins) 패밀리 단백질의 억제 중화에 의해 유도될 수 있습니다.
Apoptosis 자극 시 Smac/DIABLO는 미토콘드리아에서 세포질로 이동하며, 이는 세포 발달 및 항상성 유지에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 이러한 경로의 이상은 악성 질환과 연관될 수 있습니다. 또한 Smac/DIABLO는 면역 또는 약물 유도성 apoptosis에 대한 암세포의 감작 조절에도 관여합니다.
