Cytokeratin 8은 염색체 12번 장완에 위치한 type II keratin 계열 단백질로, type I keratin과 이합체를 형성하여 상피세포의 중간 필라멘트를 구성합니다. 이 단백질은 세포 구조 유지, 신호전달 및 세포 분화 과정에 관여하며, 유전자 변이는 특발성 간경변증(cryptogenic cirrhosis)을 유발할 수 있습니다.
