Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of chromosomal fiber in eukaryotes.
This structure consists of approximately 146 bp of DNA wrapped around a nucleosome, an octamer composed of pairs of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4.
The chromatin fiber is further compacted through interaction of linker histone H1 with DNA between nucleosomes to form higher-order chromatin structures.
The H3 gene is intronless, located on chromosome 1 within a histone cluster, and encodes a member of the histone H3 family.
Transcripts lack polyA tails and contain a palindromic termination element.
This record represents the telomeric copy of one of the duplicated histone genes.
