Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. Purity is >95% (by SDS-PAGE).
Target Information
PEDF (Pigment Epithelium-Derived Factor) is a noninhibitory serpin with neurotrophic, anti-angiogenic, and anti-tumorigenic properties. It is a 50 kDa glycoprotein produced and secreted in various tissues. PEDF induces apoptosis in proliferating endothelial cells and inhibits angiogenic factors such as VEGF and FGF-2. It also provides neuroprotection by suppressing neuronal apoptosis induced by oxidative or excitotoxic stress. PEDF interacts with its high-affinity receptor PEDF-R, the only known signaling receptor used by a serpin family member. These properties make PEDF a promising therapeutic target for vasculature-related neurodegenerative diseases like AMD and PDR, as well as angiogenesis-related cancers.
