This antibody detects endogenous levels of total MRPS22 protein.
Target Information
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and function in mitochondrial protein synthesis. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) comprise a small 28S and a large 39S subunit, with approximately 75% protein composition compared to prokaryotic ribosomes, which have higher rRNA content. Unlike prokaryotic ribosomes, mammalian mitoribosomes lack a 5S rRNA. The MRPS22 gene encodes a 28S subunit protein unique to mammalian mitoribosomes and has no counterpart in prokaryotic or fungal mitochondria. It is located telomeric to and transcribed oppositely from the forkhead box L2 gene, with a pseudogene on chromosome Xq.
