Target Information
The ACSL4 protein is an isozyme of the long-chain fatty-acid-coenzyme A ligase family. It converts free long-chain fatty acids into fatty acyl-CoA esters, playing a key role in lipid biosynthesis and fatty acid degradation. This isozyme preferentially utilizes arachidonate as substrate. Absence of the enzyme may contribute to mental retardation or Alport syndrome. Alternative splicing generates two transcript variants.
