Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the highly conserved cyclin family, characterized by periodicity in protein abundance through the cell cycle. Cyclins regulate CDK kinases, and distinct cyclins show unique expression and degradation patterns, coordinating mitotic events.
Cyclin H forms a complex with CDK7 kinase and ring finger protein MAT1. This kinase complex phosphorylates CDK2 and CDC2, functioning as a CDK-activating kinase (CAK). Cyclin H and its kinase partner are components of TFIIH and RNA polymerase II complexes, participating in transcriptional regulation and linking basal transcription control with cell cycle machinery.
