Target Information

LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase belonging to the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions locally at the site of synthesis. LIPG plays a physiological role in modulating lipoprotein metabolism. Overexpression of LIPG reduces HDL cholesterol levels, while deficiency increases HDL levels in animals. It exhibits phospholipase activity and is involved in lipoprotein metabolism and vascular biology. LIPG is a member of the triglyceride lipase family, characterized by its lid region that provides substrate specificity. It acts as a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes HDL, emulsifies triglycerides, and is essential for efficient dietary fat digestion. LIPG can also bind to heparin.
