Target Information
Actin is a ubiquitous protein forming filaments that constitute a major part of the cytoskeleton. Actin filaments interact with myosin to assist in muscle contraction, cell motility, and cytokinesis. Vertebrate actin isoforms are classified into alpha, beta, and gamma groups:
- Alpha actins: found in muscle tissues, major component of the contractile apparatus
- Beta and gamma actins: co-exist in most cell types, components of the cytoskeleton, mediators of internal cell motility
