The LIVE/DEAD™ Fixable Blue Dead Cell Stain Kit is used to determine cell viability prior to fixation and permeabilization required for intracellular antibody staining or for the elimination of biohazardous materials using formaldehyde fixation.
This kit is optimized and validated for use with UV laser flow cytometers.

Stable

Unlike products sold in solution, the LIVE/DEAD™ Fixable Blue Stain is packaged in 40-test vials to maintain stability and performance over time.
Amine-reactive dyes in solution lose effectiveness quickly; use the vial completely once rehydrated or aliquot and store at -80°C, avoiding freeze-thaw cycles.

Robust

This amine-reactive dye binds covalently to intracellular and extracellular amines, and the staining pattern is preserved following formaldehyde fixation.
Ideal for studies requiring fixation such as intracellular phosphorylation assays.

Optimal Brightness

The blue-fluorescent reactive dye has:

• Excitation maximum: ~350 nm (UV laser)
• Emission maximum: ~450 nm

Using the UV laser frees up channels on the flow cytometer for other reagents and eliminates spectral overlap issues.
Live and dead cells can be distinguished using a single dye and channel, making it ideal for multi-color experiments.

How It Works

• Dead cells: Dye reacts with free amines inside and on the surface, producing intense fluorescence.
• Live cells: Reactivity limited to surface amines, yielding weaker fluorescence.
  The intensity difference is typically >50-fold, allowing easy discrimination.
