This product is preservative free. It is recommended to add sodium azide to avoid contamination (final concentration 0.05%–0.1%).

Recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibodies are produced using in vitro expression systems developed by cloning specific antibody DNA sequences from immunoreactive rabbits. Individual clones are screened to select optimal candidates for production.

This antibody has specificity for Human CD21.

Target Information

CD21 (complement receptor 2, CR2, C3D receptor, EBV receptor) binds C3 complement fragments, especially breakdown fragments attached to complement-activating surfaces or antigens.
It plays a key role in:

• Uptake and retention of immunocomplexes
• Survival of memory B cells
• Development and maintenance of humoral response to T-dependent antigens

CD21 also acts as a receptor for Epstein-Barr virus and is involved in prion targeting to follicular dendritic cells, aiding neuroinvasion after peripheral exposure.
A soluble form (sCD21) retains ligand-binding ability.
CD21 interacts with CD23 and forms complexes with CD19, CD81, and Leu13 for B cell activation.
Genetic variations in CD21 are linked to susceptibility to systemic lupus erythematosus type 9 (SLEB9).
Alternative splicing produces different isoforms of CD21.
