Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase functioning in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades, regulating cell growth and differentiation.
It is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, membrane depolarization, and calcium influx.
Phosphorylation of serine 218 and 222 residues by Raf1 activates MEK1.
MEK1 plays roles in stress response signaling, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation.
Mutations in the MAP2K1 gene can lead to cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
