Target Information
Mucins (MUCs) are heavily glycosylated glycoproteins synthesized as either membrane-bound or secreted proteins. They exhibit aberrant expression profiles in various malignancies and play protective roles in epithelial tissues, being expressed in the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and genito-urinary tracts.
Mucins are involved in epithelial renewal, differentiation, cell adhesion, and signaling.
MUC5B contributes to oral health maintenance and is implicated in respiratory and oral diseases. Its expression has been studied in gastric carcinoma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
