Product Specific Information

Description:
The eBio13A antibody reacts with mouse IL-13, a cytokine produced mainly by Th2 cells and antigen-primed CD8 T cells. IL-13 is involved in allergic inflammation, parasitic response, and tumor regulation, showing either inhibitory or stimulatory activity depending on the context. In humans, IL-13 contributes to isotype switching in B cells and downregulates macrophage activity by reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12).

Applications Reported:
Suitable for intracellular staining followed by flow cytometric analysis.

Applications Tested:
Validated for intracellular staining and flow cytometric analysis of Th2-polarized CD4 cells. Recommended use ≤ 0.25 µg/test (in 100 µL final volume). Cell number per test may range from 10⁵–10⁸, to be optimized empirically. Antibody titration recommended for best performance.

Target Information

IL-13 is an immunoregulatory cytokine produced primarily by activated Th2 cells. It regulates inflammatory and immune responses by downregulating macrophage activity, reducing pro-inflammatory cytokine production, and contributing to allergen-induced asthma through IgE-independent mechanisms. IL-13 also regulates B cell maturation and differentiation, upregulates CD23 and MHC class II expression, and promotes IgE isotype switching. The IL-13 gene is located within a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5q, near IL4, IL3, IL5, and CSF2.
