Product Specific Information

The antibody detects a 130 kDa* protein on SDS-PAGE immunoblots of mouse macrophages (RAW264.7) treated with IFNγ and LPS, or J774A.1 cells treated with LPS only.

Target Information

iNOS (Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase, NOS) is an enzyme responsible for the production of nitric oxide (NO), a gaseous free radical that mediates various cellular processes such as vasorelaxation, neurotransmission, and cytotoxicity.
NO production is catalyzed by the NOS enzyme family, which includes three isoforms: neuronal NOS (nNOS, type I), endothelial NOS (eNOS, type III), and inducible NOS (iNOS, type II).

iNOS expression is induced by cytokines (e.g., IFNγ, TNF, IL-1, IL-2) and lipopolysaccharides (LPS), leading to increased mRNA, protein, and enzymatic activity. It is expressed in macrophages, hepatocytes, synoviocytes, and smooth muscle cells.
After cytokine induction, iNOS shows delayed but sustained NO production.
Three related iNOS pseudogenes are located within the Smith-Magenis syndrome region on chromosome 17.
Dysfunction of iNOS has been associated with diseases such as achalasia and impotence.
