TLR4는 Toll-like receptor(TLR) 패밀리의 구성원으로, 병원체 인식과 선천면역 활성화에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
이 수용체는 주로 태반과 백혈구의 myelomonocytic 세포 하위집단에서 많이 발현됩니다.
TLR4는 CD14, LY96 등과 함께 LPS 수용체 복합체를 형성하여 그람음성균의 LPS에 반응하며, 사이토카인 생성 및 면역 반응 유도에 관여합니다.
TLR4 유전자의 변이는 LPS 반응성 차이와 관련이 있으며, TLR4 결핍 생쥐는 그람음성 패혈증에 대한 감수성이 증가함이 보고되었습니다.
