Target Information
Neurogenin 1 (NEUROG1) is a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor involved in determining neuronal cell fate during development. It plays dual roles in cell-fate specification—promoting neurogenesis while inhibiting astrocyte differentiation. NeuroG1 activates neuronal gene expression and suppresses astrocyte differentiation by sequestering the CREB-binding protein transcription complex and inhibiting STAT transcription factors required for gliogenesis.
