This antibody detects endogenous levels of total SGOL1 protein.

Target Information

The SGOL1 gene encodes a member of the shugoshin protein family, which protects centromeric cohesin from cleavage during mitotic prophase by preventing phosphorylation of a cohesin subunit. Reduced expression leads to premature centromeric cohesion loss, sister chromatid mis-segregation, and mitotic arrest. This protein may also protect cohesin along chromosome arms during mitotic prophase. An isoform lacking exon 6 plays a role in centriole cohesion. Mutations are associated with Chronic Atrial and Intestinal Dysrhythmia (CAID) syndrome, involving Sick Sinus Syndrome (SSS) and Chronic Intestinal Pseudo-obstruction (CIPO). Fibroblast cells from CAID patients show increased proliferation and senescence. Pseudogenes exist on chromosomes 1 and 7, and alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
