Target Information

SMURF2 is an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that transfers ubiquitin from an E2 conjugating enzyme to target substrates. It interacts with SMAD1, SMAD2, and SMAD7 to promote ubiquitination and proteasome-dependent degradation. SMURF2 enhances SMAD7 inhibitory activity and reduces SMAD2 transcriptional activity. Coexpression with SMAD1 leads to significant reduction in SMAD1 protein levels and a smaller decrease in SMAD2.
