Target Information
SOX17 (transcription factor SOX-17) belongs to the SRY-related HMB box family of transcription factors.
It acts as a transcription regulator that binds target promoter DNA and bends the DNA, recognizing sequences 5'-AACAAT-3' or 5'-AACAAAG-3'.
SOX17 modulates transcriptional regulation via WNT3A and inhibits Wnt signaling, promoting degradation of activated CTNNB1.
It is essential for embryonic development, heart tube looping, and definitive gut endoderm formation.
Mutations in the gene can result in vesicoureteral reflux.
