Target Information

JMJD1A is a histone demethylase that specifically demethylates Lys-9 of histone H3, playing a central role in the histone code.
It preferentially acts on mono- and dimethylated H3 Lys-9 residues, with weak or no activity on trimethylated forms.
Demethylation of Lys residues produces formaldehyde and succinate.
JMJD1A is involved in hormone-dependent transcriptional activation via recruitment to androgen-receptor target genes, leading to H3 Lys-9 demethylation and transcriptional activation.
It also plays roles in spermatogenesis by regulating genes such as PRM1 and TMP1, required for sperm chromatin packaging and condensation, and contributes to obesity resistance through metabolic gene regulation (PPARA, UCP1).
