Target Information
Mammalian apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease (APE/ref-1) is a multifunctional enzyme involved in DNA repair and redox regulation of various transcription factors (Fos, Jun, NF-κB, Myb, HIF-1α, CREB, Pax). It repairs abasic sites in DNA caused by oxidative stress, radiation, or chemical damage. APE1 expression varies across tissues and developmental stages, and its regulation involves phosphorylation by casein kinase II. Increased APE1 expression is observed upon reoxygenation of hypoxic cells and in certain malignant tissues, while decreased expression has been linked to apoptosis induction.
