Human NPHS2는 염색체 1q25–q31에 위치하며, 383개의 아미노산으로 구성된 단백질을 암호화합니다. Podocin은 막관통형 단백질로, hairpin 형태로 접히며 세포 내 N- 및 C-말단을 가집니다.
Podocin의 막관통 및 세포질 영역은 stomatin 계열 단백질과 상동성을 가지며, 사구체 여과 장벽의 안정성을 유지하는 데 중요한 역할을 합니다.
