Target Information
ACCN3 encodes a member of the degenerin/epithelial sodium channel (DEG/ENaC) superfamily.
These are amiloride-sensitive sodium channels with intracellular N and C termini, two hydrophobic transmembrane regions, and a large extracellular loop containing cysteine residues with conserved spacing.
ACCN3 functions as an acid sensor and may play an important role in detecting lasting pH changes.
It can form heteromeric proton-gated channels with ACCN1 that are sensitive to gadolinium.
