Barrier-to-autointegration factor 1 (BANF1)는 이중가닥 DNA에 비특이적으로 결합하는 보존된 크로마틴 단백질입니다. BANF1은 LAP2, emerin, MAN1을 포함하는 핵 단백질과 상호작용하며, HIV를 포함한 레트로바이러스의 pre-integration complex(PIC)의 숙주 세포 구성 요소로 작용합니다. 또한 HIV-1 virion의 구조적 전구체인 p55 Gag 및 그 절단 산물인 matrix와 결합할 수 있습니다. 이러한 특성으로 BANF1은 바이러스 조립 및 PIC 활성에 직접적으로 관여할 가능성이 있습니다.
