Alpha Tubulin은 알파 및 베타 튜불린 서브유닛으로 구성된 이합체의 일부입니다. 각 서브유닛은 약 55 kDa의 분자량을 가지며, 미세소관(microtubule)의 기본 구성 단위로 작용합니다. 미세소관은 세포 내 구조적 지지체 및 수송 경로 역할을 하며, 유사분열 과정에서도 핵심적인 기능을 수행합니다.
감마 튜불린은 미세소관의 핵형성(nucleation)에 중요하며, 알파 및 베타 튜불린 유전자는 종 간에 높은 보존성을 보입니다. Alpha Tubulin을 암호화하는 인간 유전자는 마우스 및 랫의 Tuba1 유전자와 매우 유사하며, 신경세포에서 주로 발현됩니다.
