Target Information
Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 18 (TNFRSF18), also known as GITR or AITR, is encoded by the TNFRSF18 gene located on chromosome 1p36.33. It belongs to the TNF-receptor superfamily and is upregulated upon T-cell activation. This receptor plays a key role in maintaining immunological self-tolerance via CD25(+)CD4(+) regulatory T cells. Mouse knockout studies indicate its involvement in CD3-driven T-cell activation and programmed cell death. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
