Target Information

Bcl-2 related Protein A1 (BCL2A1) is a member of the BCL-2 protein family. These proteins form hetero- or homodimers and act as anti- and pro-apoptotic regulators involved in various cellular activities such as embryonic development, homeostasis, and tumorigenesis.
This protein reduces the release of pro-apoptotic cytochrome c from mitochondria and blocks caspase activation.
It is a direct transcription target of NF-kappa B in response to inflammatory mediators and can be up-regulated by signals such as GM-CSF, CD40, phorbol ester, TNF, and IL-1, indicating a cytoprotective function essential for lymphocyte activation and cell survival.
