Target Information
KIR3DL1 belongs to the Killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptors (KIRs), which are transmembrane glycoproteins expressed by natural killer (NK) cells and subsets of T cells.
KIR genes are polymorphic and homologous, located on chromosome 19q13.4 within the leukocyte receptor complex (LRC).
These proteins are classified by the number of extracellular immunoglobulin domains (2D or 3D) and by the length of the cytoplasmic domain (L or S).
- Long (L) cytoplasmic domains mediate inhibitory signals via immune tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs).
- Short (S) domains mediate activating signals via TYRO protein tyrosine kinase binding proteins.
KIR proteins interact with subsets of HLA class I molecules and play a critical role in immune regulation.
