Target Information
STRAP is a 350 amino acid MAP activator with WD-40 repeats localized in both the cytoplasm and nucleus. It is a ubiquitously expressed protein that acts as an inhibitor of TGF-beta signaling and regulates cell proliferation. Stable expression of STRAP activates the MAPK/ERK pathway and down-regulates p21 (Cip1), leading to retinoblastoma protein hyperphosphorylation. Upregulation of STRAP may contribute to early tumor development, particularly in colorectal cancers. It is also involved in U snRNP assembly with the SMN complex, playing a crucial role in intracellular SMN1 distribution.
