Product Specific Information
Mouse anti-Bovine CD21 monoclonal antibody, clone CC51 recognizes the bovine homologue of the human CD21 cell surface antigen, a 145 kDa single-pass type I membrane glycoprotein containing multiple sushi domains.
Target Information
CD21 (complement receptor 2, CR2, C3D receptor, EBV receptor) binds C3 complement fragments, particularly its breakdown products that remain covalently attached to complement-activating surfaces or antigens. CD21 plays key roles in:
- Uptake and retention of immune complexes
- Survival of memory B cells
- Development and maintenance of humoral responses to T-dependent antigens
CD21 also serves as a receptor for Epstein-Barr virus, facilitating viral binding and prion targeting to follicular dendritic cells, thereby expediting neuroinvasion after peripheral exposure. The soluble form (sCD21) retains ligand-binding capacity. CD21 interacts with CD23 and forms complexes with CD19, CD81, and Leu13, contributing to B cell activation signaling. Genetic variations in the CD21 gene are associated with susceptibility to systemic lupus erythematosus type 9 (SLEB9). Alternative splicing generates multiple isoforms of CD21.
