Target Information
ZEB1 (Zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1) acts as a transcriptional repressor and inhibits interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene expression. It modulates promoter activity of ATP1A1 depending on cDNA quantity and cell type. ZEB1 represses E-cadherin promoters, inducing epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) via recruitment of SMARCA4/BRG1. It also represses BCL6 transcription with CTBP1 and regulates neuronal differentiation by repressing RCOR1 activation during neurogenesis. Mutations in ZEB1 are associated with corneal dystrophies including posterior polymorphous and Fuchs endothelial dystrophy.
