Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Collagen XI alpha 1.

Target Information

Collagen Type XI is an 1806 amino acid protein belonging to the fibrillar collagen family. It plays an important role in fibrillogenesis by controlling the lateral growth of collagen II fibrils.
This protein forms trimers composed of three different chains: α1(XI), α2(XI), and α3(XI). The α3(XI) chain is a post-translational modification of α1(II), and α1(V) can sometimes replace α3(XI).
Collagen Type XI has three named isoforms (A, B, C) and additional isoforms generated by alternative splicing of exon IIA or IIB. Exon IIA/IIB transcripts are present in cartilage, while exon IIB is preferentially expressed in tendon.
It contains a single collagen-binding TSP N-terminal (TSPN) domain and is expressed in cartilage, placenta, and some tumor or virally transformed cell lines. Isoform expression can be tissue-specific.
Defects in the COL11A gene cause Stickler syndrome type 2 (STL2), characterized by irregularly thickened fiber bundles in the vitreous cavity.
