Target Information
Mitochondrial peripheral-type benzodiazepine receptor (PBR, also known as TSPO) is a key component of the steroidogenic machinery, mediating cholesterol transport to the inner mitochondrial membrane upon ligand activation. PBR consists of three subunits: an isoquinoline binding site, a voltage-dependent anion channel, and an adenine nucleotide carrier. It is evolutionarily conserved and widely expressed in peripheral organs, while in the brain it is mainly localized in glial cells. PFDA (Peroxisome proliferator perfluordecanoic acid) inhibits Leydig cell steroidogenesis by reducing PBR mRNA stability, thereby affecting cholesterol transport and steroid formation. PRAX-1 (Peripheral Benzodiazepine Receptor-Associated Protein 1) specifically interacts with PBR.
