The NR2C1 gene encodes a nuclear hormone receptor with a highly conserved DNA-binding domain (DBD), a variable hinge region, and a carboxy-terminal ligand-binding domain (LBD), typical of the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily.
This protein functions as a ligand-inducible transcription factor, regulating gene expression by binding to specific DNA sequences in promoter regions.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified, though some full-length forms remain undetermined.
