This antibody detects endogenous levels of total TIE2.
Target Information
The TEK receptor tyrosine kinase is expressed almost exclusively in endothelial cells. TEK signaling is critical for endothelial cell–smooth muscle cell communication during venous morphogenesis, and defects in TEK are associated with inherited venous malformations.
Angiopoietin-1 binds to this receptor and mediates a signaling pathway involved in embryonic vascular development. Immunoblotting studies have shown that TIE2 expression increases in response to thyroid-stimulating hormone and agents that elevate intracellular cAMP.
Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) expressing TIE2 are quiescent, anti-apoptotic, and form a side population that adheres to osteoblasts in the bone marrow niche.
