Target Information
Cadherins are a family of transmembrane glycoproteins involved in calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion. These molecules are differentially expressed across tissues and play key roles in maintaining tissue integrity and morphogenesis.
Cadherins are categorized into two subgroups:
- Type I cadherins: E-cadherin (cadherin-1 or uvomorulin), N-cadherin (cadherin-2), P-cadherin (cadherin-3), and R-cadherin (cadherin-4)
- Type II cadherins: K-cadherin (cadherin-6) and OB-cadherin (cadherin-11)
K-cadherin (cadherin-6) is predominantly expressed in the proximal tubule epithelium of the kidney, from which most renal cell carcinomas originate.
